Agriculture Budget of July 2024
Budget 2024 is growth oriented, pragmatic with focus on strengthening agriculture sector, infrastructure, job creation, MSME and skilling.
In so far as agriculture sector is concerned, an allocation for ₹1.52 lakh crore has been made for 2024-25 and emphasis is laid to augment total factor productivity and resilience in agriculture sector (TFP). For this, Atmanirbharta is sought to be achieved in oilseeds such as mustard, groundnut, sesame, soyabean and sunflower, pulses, enhancing vegetable production, developing climate resilient varieties, promotion of FPOs, cooperatives & agri start-ups for strengthening vegetables supply chains for collection, storage, and marketing. Shrimp farming, processing and export is sought to be facilitated through NABARD. Besides, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), digital crop survey in 400 select districts of the country and issuance of Jan Samarth Kisan Credit Cards are also envisioned.
On Natural farming, one crore farmers will be initiated into natural farming, and the government will support them in matters of certification and branding. The project will be implemented through scientific institutions and willing gram panchayats, for which 10,000 need-based bio-input resource centres will be established.
Land is one of the most important natural factors of production. The Budget 2024 provides for assignment of unique land parcel identification number (ULPIN) of all lands and digitisation of cadastral maps. The proposed initiative will go a long way in credit flow to the sector and agricultural services by establishing clear ownership.
