About the Speakers
Prof. Surender Kumar
Surender Kumar is a Senior Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He had been the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Delhi. He had been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and a Senior JSPS Fellow at the Yokohama National University Yokohama (Japan). He also served as the Director (Acting), Agricultural Economics Research Centre, University of Delhi. Professor Kumar has been working in the areas of Environmental & Resource Economics and Climate Change & Energy Economics. He also extends his ambit of research to Productivity and Efficiency measurement and Applied Econometrics. Prof. Kumar has co-authored three books including two books by Springer and one book by Oxford University Press and 80 papers in cherished journals.
Prof. Mohanakumar S.
Prof. Mohanakumar S. isProfessor and Director at Public Policy Research Institute. Prof. Mohanakumar is a committed social scientist, a dedicated teacher and an environmental activist. Prof. Mohanakumar started his career as a research investigator in the CDS, Thiruvananthapuram soon after his M. A. He worked as Scientist (Agricultural Economics Division) of the Rubber Research Institute of India, Kottayam (Rubber Board) for more than 16 years. He had worked as Associate Professor (Social Development) at the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA, Thrissur, Kerala). Mohanakumar joined the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur (IDSJ) in 2009 and worked as Professor and Director. He left IDSJ in August 2023 to join the PPRI. He has a post-graduation in Population Sciences from IIPS, Mumbai and undertook post-doctoral training at York University, Toronto, Canada. He was a recipient of the York Centre for Asian Research Fellowship by York University in 2013. Prof. Mohanakumar was designated as the National Expert on Indian Agriculture by the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), Tokyo. He has closely worked with APO to produce the document on Smart Agriculture Transformation in India (SATI). During the first phase of People’s Plan Campaign in Kerala, he was actively involved in the movement as a state level key resource person and initiated several pioneering experiments in decentralised planning process at Pallichal and Vellanad Grama Panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. Prof. Mohanakumar has extensively worked on the political economy of agriculture development, labour-related issues, decentralised planning, rural development and dairying in India. He has written extensively and published in academic journals and popular media. He has published books in English and Malayalam.
Mr. Shachindra Nath
Shachindra Nath, Founder and Managing Director of U GRO Capital, is one of the data-techdriven lender’s powering forces. Presently, U GRO Capital offers loans to businesses in nine crucial sectors of healthcare, education, chemicals, food processing/FMCG, printing & packaging, electrical equipment components, light engineering, BFSI and Gro Micro segments requiring smaller-sized loans. Considered an influencer and expert on financial businesses, Mr. Nath has acquired multi-faceted experience in the financial services industry. He has played key roles in establishing many financial entities, including two insurance companies, a large asset management company, and an NBFC. With a clear vision and astute understanding of financial services, Mr. Nath is guiding U GRO Capital in its mission to serve the financial needs of India’s underserved businesses by deploying technology and forging business partnerships. He holds a law degree from the Banaras Hindu University.
