Abstract
In this webinar the panelists shall discuss the Economic Survey which provides a thorough analysis of the country's performance of the previous year.
About the Speakers
Dr. Ashok Vishandass
Ashok Vishandass, Professor (Applied Economics) (IIPA) has interest in Sustainable Agriculture, Risk Management, International Trade & Commerce. As ex-Chairman (CACP) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare at the level of the Secretary to the Govt. of India, he has rich experience of formulation of Agriculture Price and Non-Price Policies, nuances of fixing MSP of various agriculture commodities. Before joining IIPA, he had also served FAO of United Nations Organisation (UNO) as the Chief Technical Adviser. In his stint with the UNO, he provided high-level technical and economic advice relating to Food Security, SDGs, agricultural Marketing and brought out eight Reports.
Prof. Ashok holds Ph.D. (Agri. Economics), M.A. (Economics) (University of Manchester), M.B.A. (Financial Management), PG Diploma in Population and Development (JNU), M. Stat. (Master of Statistics) (Gold Medalist).
Rattan Chand
Dr Rattan Chand is one of the founding Directors, EGROW Foundation. He is a former officer of the Indian Statistical Service and has served the Government of India in various positions for more than 35 years. While in the service, he worked closely with many Development Partners including USAID, World Bank, United Nations, World Health Organization etc. He has represented the Government at many national and International Meetings, Conferences and Seminars in the Health Sector. As Chief Director, in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, he was responsible for Monitoring and evaluation and during his tenure many activities like establishing Health Management Information System (HMIS), Annual Health Surveys, District Level Household Surveys and National Family Health Survey were initiated and completed.
He obtained Ph.D. in Population Studies from IIPS, Mumbai, PG Diploma in Population and Development from JNU and Master of Statistics from Punjabi University.
Saswati Choudhury
Saswati Choudhury has been with OKDISCD, Guwahati since 2002. Prior to her joining OKDISCD, an ICSSR Institute, she was Ph.D Fellow at Indian Institute of Bank Management, Guwahati. Her area of work includes, Regional Development, Gender and Health.
M.P. Bezbaruah
Madhurjya Prasad Bezbaruah is the Former Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Gauhati University. He is also an Expert, EGROW Foundation. He has also held several positions till date viz Member of ICSSR from 2017-2020, Director in the board of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Member of the RBI Committee on Financial Sector Plan for NE Region chaired by Usha Thorat, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Director in the Board of Directors of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation from 2001 to 2005, Member of the Advisory Committee for Preparation of Human Development Report, Assam 2013. He has 6 books, 63 papers in journals, 28 articles in edited volumes.
Dilip Chenoy
Mr Dilip Chenoy is Chairman, Bharat Web3 Association. Mr. Chenoy has had an illustrious career serving as the Secretary-General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Director-General of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Deputy Director-General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). With decades of experience in leading domestic industry bodies, Mr. Chenoy is a renowned figure in the policy domain and his expertise and contributions have been invaluable to the Indian business landscape.
G. M. Bhat
Professor G. M. Bhat is a distinguished academic with over 34 years of teaching experience and more than 39 years of research experience. He has held prominent positions at several prestigious institutions, including the S.K. University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Srinagar, the University of Kashmir, King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the Central University of Kashmir. Throughout his career, Professor Bhat has been involved in various research projects, contributing significantly to the academic community. He has provided guidance to 18 Ph.D. candidates and 20 M.Phil. students.
In addition to his teaching and research roles, Professor Bhat has been actively engaged in academic publishing. He serves as the editor of the International Journal of Development Studies and Research, a refereed journal based in New Delhi. He has authored nine books and published 56 research papers. He has also organized ten national and international conferences and seminars, demonstrating his leadership in the academic sphere.
Professor Bhat is a life member of several professional organizations, including the Indian Economic Association, the International Institute for Development Studies, and the Indian Institute of Public Administration. He has also been an executive member of the Indian Society of Labour Economics and served as Vice President and E.C. member of the Indian Economics and Allied Sciences Association.
Nirmala Padmanabhan
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan was a faculty of Economics for 26 years for post-graduation and graduation and has handled subjects such as financial markets and systems, international trade and monetary systems. She has experience in budget analysis and analysis of economic issues of the country and in rural economic development as part of the Unnath Bharath Abhiyan / community development projects. Presently, she is the Dean of Extension and Incubation in St. Teresa's College, Ernakulam with overall charge of community development projects undertaken by the college and responsible for overall guidance to the business incubation and entrepreneurship development initiatives of the college.
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan was Member of the Public Expenditure Review Committee of the Government of Kerala in 2020-21. She was also a Member of the Working Group on Gender and Development to prepare Plan of Action for 14 Five Year Plan of the Government of Kerala in 2021-22. She was also a Member of the Working Group on Financial Resource Mobilisation to prepare Plan of Action for 14 Five Year Plan of the Government of Kerala in 2021-22. Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan is a Director in and holds 6.94% of the paid-up capital of BhuME Women's Collective Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan is a post graduate in economics and holds a doctorate and has special knowledge and practical experience in economics.
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan was appointed on the Board of the Dhanlaxmi Bank with effect from 09.11.2022.
Narendra Kumar Bishnoi
Narendra Kumar Bishnoi is the Professor and Chairperson, Department of Economics, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology. He has 32 years of teaching experience. His expertise spans Economic & Fiscal Policy Analysis, Regional Competitiveness Analysis, and Venture Capital. He has contributed to various state finance commissions in Haryana, developed case studies for the UNDP, and served on national committees. He has worked with the UNDP, World Bank, and other major organizations. He has authored over 80 research papers and successfully completed 22 research projects and mentored over 16 PhD scholars. He also engages in popular writing and media discussions, and currently mentors start-ups, including one focused on developing an artificial bionic hand at IIT Delhi’s Technology Incubation Center.
Kedar Vishnu
Dr. Kedar Vishnu trained as an Institutional economist and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Economics at DLHS, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru. Dr. Kedar earned his PhD from the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) in Bengaluru and his M.A. in Economics from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. His PhD was funded by the ADRTC (Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Govt. of India). His research interests encompass Applied Econometrics, Macroeconomics, Agricultural Economics, and Institutional Economics. With over thirteen years of experience in teaching and research, Dr. Kedar has previously worked with the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics University (BASE), Bengaluru. At CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, he headed the Economics programs and played a key role in launching the M.Sc. Economics and B.Sc. Economics programs. Dr. Kedar has contributed to various research projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, and NIAP, New Delhi. He has presented his research in the USA, Canada, Russia, Germany, Slovakia, China, and Indonesia. He is a member of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association, USA, and has authored over 27 articles in newspapers such as Deccan Herald, Telangana Today, and Sakal on various emerging topics. He is a Winner of the Travel Grants for Early Career Professionals from the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, Washington, USA, International Association of Agricultural Economists, USA, and Higher School of Economics, Russia for presenting his Research work. He has received the prestigious Ronald Coase Fellowship from Ronald Coase Institute, USA for doing his empirical work on Institutional Economics.
