Abstract
Haryana has emerged as a prominent economic powerhouse in India. Its strategic location, coupled with a conducive business environment and robust infrastructure, has propelled its growth. The state's GDP growth has been consistent. This impressive performance was driven by sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and services. Th focus on industrial development, coupled with its proximity to Delhi, has attracted significant investments, creating employment opportunities and boosting economic prosperity. The panel shall discuss on the future growth prospects and challenges of Haryana.
About the Speakers
Ramesh Chand
Prof. Ramesh Chand is Member of National Institution for Transforming India, NITI Aayog, Government of India, and Chairman of the Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi. He is also member of the Policy Advisory Council (PAC) of the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). In the past, he was Member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission, member of Board of Trustees of International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Mexico and member of Food Security Council of World Economic Forum.
He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. Prof. Ramesh Chand has worked in senior academic positions at National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research, New Delhi, Institute of Economic Growth and Punjab Agricultural University. He was Visiting Professor at University of Wollongong, NSW Australia and at Institute of Developing Economies, Chiba Shi, Japan. He has also been Consultant with international organizations such as FAO, UNDP, ESCAP, UNCTAD, Commonwealth and World Bank.
Prof. Chand has authored seven books and published more than 150 research papers in reputed national and international journals in the areas of agriculture growth and development, demand and supply, food policy, farmers’ issues, agricultural markets and trade. In recognition of his contributions, Prof. Ramesh Chand has received several national and international awards.
Narendra Kumar Bishnoi
Narendra Kumar Bishnoi is the Professor and Chairperson, Department of Economics, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology. He has 32 years of teaching experience. His expertise spans Economic & Fiscal Policy Analysis, Regional Competitiveness Analysis, and Venture Capital. He has contributed to various state finance commissions in Haryana, developed case studies for the UNDP, and served on national committees. He has worked with the UNDP, World Bank, and other major organizations. He has authored over 80 research papers and successfully completed 22 research projects and mentored over 16 PhD scholars. He also engages in popular writing and media discussions, and currently mentors start-ups, including one focused on developing an artificial bionic hand at IIT Delhi’s Technology Incubation Center.
Ashok Kumar Chauhan
Dr. Ashok Chauhan is working as Professor at Department of Economics, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. He has been actively involved in teaching and research guidance. He has been associated with writing of Haryana State Development Report as main consultant. Recently, he has successfully completed the UN Study on “ Grid Connected Solar Systems”. Researchers from various social sciences including management, commerce, education, tourism, environmental management etc. keep on seeking his help in data analysis. Dr. Chauhan enjoys designing new techniques of analysis which use econometrics, mathematical programming and simulation. His areas of specialization include environmental economics and quantitative techniques. His main concern is socio-economic inequalities.
He has published about 30 research papers. He has supervised 9 Ph.D. and 15 M.Phil scholars. Currently, he is supervising seven research scholars who are working in areas of economic thought, taxation, employment, PSU disinvestment, macro-economic risks and productivity of manufacturing sector.
Shailender Kumar Hooda
Shailender Kumar Hooda is Associate Professor at the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, New Delhi, India. He completed his PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has over a decade of teaching and research experience. Previously, he has taught at the University of Delhi and Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and has worked with the National Council of Applied Economic Research and the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi. He works on health economics and policy, pharmaceutical industry, industrial policy and applied econometrics. He specialises in handling large-scale survey data relating to the Indian economy/industry, and in conducting and designing primary surveys. His writings have appeared in reputed magazines, newspapers and journals. He has delivered several projects funded by national and international agencies. You can find him more often in EPW pages.
