Abstract

In the webinar the panel shall Manipur’s economy is predominantly agrarian, with over 70% of the population dependent on agriculture and allied activities. Despite this, the state contributes less than 0.2% to India’s GDP, highlighting the need for structural reforms and investment. Handloom and handicrafts industries are significant sources of employment, especially for women, with Manipur ranking among the top states in terms of handloom workers. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited industrialization, and frequent disruptions due to socio-political unrest hinder economic growth. This webinar will examine these issues, explore sector-wise opportunities—including tourism, horticulture, and IT—and consider pathways for inclusive and sustainable development. In this webinar, the panel will provide expert insights and propose actionable strategies for a more resilient and inclusive economy in Manipur.
