About the Speakers

Sudha Krishnan

Smt. Sudha Krishnan joined the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS) in 1983. She possesses Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA), George Mason University Virginia, USA, Masters Degree in English Literature (MA) and Bachelors Degree (Hons) in English Literature (BA Honours) from Delhi University.

She retired as Member Finance to the Space Commission and Atomic Energy Commission. As Member Finance, she served as the advisor to the Commissions on financial business pertaining to the Departments of Space and Atomic Energy.

Smt. Krishnan has close to four decades of experience in public policy and finance. She has worked on secondment at the Ministry of Finance in different capacities where she has handled diverse portfolios including World Bank projects, personnel matters of the Central Government and writing memoranda and reports for the Finance Minister on improving the overall effectiveness of Government spending. She also served as Financial Adviser to the Ministry of Urban Development. She has been a Government nominee director on the boards of many Government companies and banks.

In her parent department namely, the office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (the Supreme Audit Institution- SAI, of India) she has led and coordinated the production of several audit reports including the audit of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. As Principal Director (International Cooperation) she was directly responsible for advising and implementing the CAG’s international obligations both bilateral and multilateral. In her last assignment in the office of the CAG, she was responsible for developing and strengthening professional standards and practices in audit.

Smt. Krishnan serves as Independent Director on boards of SBI Funds Management Ltd, IDFC Financial Holding Company Ltd and Graphite India Ltd.

Prof. Dr. Harpreet Kaur

Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur is Principal of Mata Sundri College for Women, University of Delhi named after Mata Sundri Ji, Guru Mahal of Guru Gobind Singh Ji who is known as Mother of the Khalsa Panth. Previously she was Vice Principal of the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, University of Delhi. She joined SGGSCC in 1990.

She has a penchant for writing and has to her credit 24 Books, 9 Book Chapters, 25 Research Papers in National and 6 in International Journals, 23 Book Reviews, 4 Foreword and Editorials and many News Paper Articles. In addition, 5 Booklets were published by Dharam Prachar Committee, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. She has written 4 Forewords/Editorials in books on, Guru Amar Das and Debate in Parliament on 1984 and in The Sikh Review on, Recognizing Multi-faith Minorities in Secular Democracies and Sri Guru Granth Sahib: An Epitome of Interfaith and Inter-cultural Understanding.

Dr. Harpreet Kaur has presented 17 Papers at National Conferences and 11 at International Conferences including at Stanford University, USA, Warsaw School of Economics, Poland, University of Ottawa, Canada, Capital School of Business and Management, UK, World Punjabi Conference held at Brampton, Canada in 2017 etc. Her contribution to Research includes two Innovation Projects under the aegis of University of Delhi and one Major Research Project (MRP) under the aegis of UGC.

Dr. Harpreet Kaur has contributed articles pertaining to the Sikh history and ethos in many reputed journals and magazines like, The Sikh Review, Khalsa Samachar, Studies in Sikhism and Comparative Religion, Amrit Kirtan, Special Issues by Takht Sri Harmandar Ji, Patna Sahib and DSGMC, Asian Ethnicity, Routledge, Talyor & Francis Group etc. She has done English and Hindi Translation of Punjabi Booklet, Banda Singh Bahadur Life and Martyrdom published by Dharam Prachar Committee, DSGMC.

Another booklet written by her namely, Bhai Kanhaiya: An Apostle of Selfless Sacrifice and Peace in English and Bhai Kanhaiya Ji: Nishkam Sewa Avam Shanti Ke Doot in Hindi was published by Dharam Prachar Committee, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee in 2018.

She has presented at World Punjabi Conference, 2017 held at Brampton, Canada and at National Seminars on Guru Nanak Dev, Sri Guru Gobind Singh and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur organized by International Centre for Sikh Studies, and at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Mata Sundri College for Women, PGDAV College, Shyam Lal College etc. Dr. Harpreet Kaur was granted Siropa for academic research on Banda Singh Bahadur on 25th June 2015 held at Gurmat Samagam near Qutub Minar, Mehrauli to mark 300th Martyrdom of Banda Singh Bahadur.

Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda

Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda joined Miranda House in 1993 and is a Professor in the Department of Political Science. She is currently the Principal of the college.

She received her Ph.D from the Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her research interests include gender, political theory and human rights. Her publications include, Discourse on Rights in India: Debates and Dilemmas (Co-editor), (Routledge, London, 2018), Sex-Selective Abortion and the State: Policies, Laws and Institutions in India (HarAnand, 2018), Understanding Social Inequality: Concerns of Human Rights, Gender and Environment (Co- editor) (Macmillan, 2010) and Human Rights, Gender and Environment (Allied, 2006). She has numerous articles in reputed journals to her credit. She is currently working on the issues around declining child sex ratio, sex selection, gender, policy and governance. She is the general editor of Shakti Books, a series on writings on gender issues by Har Anand Publications.

She is a recipient of the ICSSR Doctoral fellowship and the Delhi University Vice Chancellor's Teacher's Excellence Award in 2017.

She is actively associated with a number of government and non-government organisations as advisor on gender, policy and advocacy programmes for the youth. She supports the One Billion Rising, the global campaign on violence against women and the Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR) on their various programmes. She is a member of the Academic Stand Against Poverty (ASAP), a global body of academics developing ways to collaborate on issues of poverty and a member of the civil society network, Girls Count.

She has assisted various state governments in drafting policy related to women and girl child. As a policy analyst she has extensively analysed the public policies relating to family planning, human trafficking, Conditional Cash Transfers for the girl-child, housing for women, etc. In addition, she has provided technical assistance on gender issues to UNFPA, UNDP, UNIFEM and WHO, apart from a score of Non-Government Organizations in India. She is the Project Director of ICSSR project under Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) titled "Declining Child Sex Ratio and Violence Against Women: Examining Girl-Child Discrimination in India".

She is a member of the Advisory Committee on PC-PNDT Act of the Government of NCT of Delhi. She has been a research advisor to the National Commission for Women (NCW) and a member of the core committee on the issue of sex- selective abortion, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. She is the former presiding officer of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Miranda House for the prevention of sexual harassment. She is also the external member of IIC of two organisations - Johnson and Mathey and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

Dr. Rashmi Saluja

Dr. Rashmi Saluja is a doctor and an entrepreneur. She is an MBBS, MD, MBA (Finance), LLB and PhD by qualification. Dr. Saluja has administrative experience of more than 25 years, setting up institutions and being involved in social and charitable activities.

As the Executive Chairperson of Religare Enterprises Limited, a Core Investment Company (CIC), registered with RBI, that caters to customers across a wide spectrum of financial services through its various subsidiary companies, namely Religare Finvest Limited, Religare Housing Development Finance Corporation limited, Religare Broking Limited and Care Health Insurance Limited, Dr Saluja has been leading the organisation from the front, through challenging times, to build a strong and integrated financial services Group.

Dr. Rashmi Saluja also serves as Chairperson Cum Managing Director of Religare Finvest Limited and Non-Executive Chairperson of Care Health Insurance Limited and Religare Broking Limited, respectively.
