About Prof. Bibek Debroy

Prof. Bibek Debroy is a distinguished Indian economist and scholar and served as the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India till he passed away November 1, 2024. A Padma Shri awardee (2015), Prof. Debroy has held several key positions, including Member of NITI Aayog, Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, and Secretary-General of the PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has also served as Director of the Finance Ministry and UNDP’s project LARGE (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalizing the Economy) and as a consultant to the Department of Economic Affairs. Prof. Debroy has been an advocate for economic and legal reforms, contributing to initiatives such as the National Manufacturing Competitive Council and expert committees on infrastructure financing. Additionally, he is renowned for his extensive writings, including translations of ancient Indian texts like the Mahabharata, which bridge economics and cultural heritage.
