Abstract

India’s inclusion in global bond indices has the potential to increase its attractiveness as an investment destination, though its bond market is currently too small to secure significant allocations from global pension funds. These long-term investors prioritize stable, long-term investments, and India’s fiscal discipline, exemplified by targeting a 5.4% fiscal deficit, can help build investor confidence. However, it will take time for India to achieve a substantial share in the global bond market. To attract more foreign capital, India could focus on alternative asset classes such as infrastructure, private equity, and private debt, which align with the long-term objectives of global asset owners. In this webinar, the speaker will focus on India’s potential inclusion in global bond indices, examining how this could boost India’s appeal to foreign investors.
