Abstract
India’s economic growth story reflects a complex journey from post-independence state-led development to today’s globally integrated market economy. The session will examine the nation’s past achievements, current challenges, and future opportunities. It will revisit early policy frameworks, agricultural transformation, and industrialization phases that shaped the growth trajectory. It will then assess contemporary issues, including structural changes in production, fiscal and monetary policy responses, rural-urban linkages, and emerging technology-driven sectors. Finally, it will explore forward-looking strategies for inclusive, sustainable growth, addressing inequality, productivity gaps, and climate challenges. Drawing on perspectives from development economics, public finance, and macroeconomic analysis, the session aims to provide a holistic understanding of India’s evolving growth paradigm and outline policy directions for the coming decades. In this webinar, the panelists will deliberate on how India can strengthen resilience, enhance competitiveness, and ensure that the benefits of growth are widely shared.
