Abstract
India’s post-Independence economic journey can be divided into distinct phases — from the colonial legacy to the socialist pattern, mixed economy, reform, accelerating growth, and global crises phases.
The lowest average growth of 3.5% during the late 1960s and early 1970s — often mischaracterized as the “Hindu Growth Rate” — in fact reflects the constraints of the socialist era. In contrast, India’s prospective stable growth of about 7.0% aligns more closely with the saving and investment norms embedded in ancient Indian economic philosophy — and may more appropriately be termed the true Hindu Growth Rate.
This webinar will provide a phase-wise overview of the evolution of fiscal, monetary, financial, and external sector policies, and project India’s growth trajectory up to 2050–51. It will explore how, within a century of the Constitution’s adoption, India is poised to regain its past economic glory and achieve Viksit Bharat status in the modern global economy.
