About the speakers
Amb. Manjeev Puri
Manjeev Singh Puri is presently Distinguished Fellow at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow with the Ananta Centre. He is a former Indian Ambassador. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1982 and served as Ambassador of India to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg (2013-2017) and Nepal (2017-2019). He has also served as Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN from 2009-2012, a period during which India was on the Security Council. Prior to that, from 2005-2009, he headed the division in the Ministry of External Affairs dealing with UN issues on the social and economic side. In addition, he has served twice in Germany (in Bonn and Berlin), in Cape Town, Muscat, Bangkok and Caracas. He retired on 31 December 2019 in the rank of Secretary, Government of India.
Major areas of his experience relate to multilateralism (UN), Europe and Nepal and he was involved as a lead member of the Indian delegation at numerous global negotiations on, migration, human rights and UN reforms. His professional focus has been on issues relating to the environment, climate change and sustainable development. He was a lead negotiator for India at the UN on issues relating to the post 2015 development agenda, Sustainable Development Goals and at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. He was a key member of India's delegation at various Climate Change negotiations, including the Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC in Copenhagen in December 2009 and before that at Montreal, Bali, Bonn and Poznan. Furthermore, he was involved with India's participation in the G8-G5 Summits from 2005 and was the point-person for the Major Economies Forum.
Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi
Professor Sachin Chaturvedi is the Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University. Previously, he was with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) in New Delhi, focusing on development economics, SDGs, South-South cooperation, and global trade, with a special emphasis on the WTO. A distinguished scholar, he played a key role in launching global and national networks like the Network of Southern Think Tanks (NeST), the Forum for Indian Development Cooperation (FIDC), and the Delhi Process on South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
Professor Chaturvedi has been involved in several government initiatives and is a prominent voice in India’s external economic engagements. He is admired for his leadership, mentorship, and contributions to evidence-based economic policymaking. An accomplished author, he has published over 22 books and contributed to major journals. His book "The Logic of Sharing: Indian Approach to South–South Cooperation" is widely recognized. He serves on the editorial boards of journals like the South Asian Economic Journal and IDS Bulletin. Professor Chaturvedi has held visiting positions at global institutions and is an Independent Director at the Reserve Bank of India.
Dr. Renu
Dr. Renu is an independent researcher and author with a PhD from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). She has worked with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, from 2019 to 2024. Her research areas are European Affairs, Russian Foreign Policy, and Global Politics. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from JNU. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and German and has a sound understanding of the Russian language. She has presented various papers at national and international conferences. She has published in journals and has book chapters.
Dr. Roland Haas
Dr. Roland Haas is a serial entrepreneur, researcher, mentor for startups, and book author. He has 30 years of professional experience in senior techno-managerial, business innovation and business development assignments in Europe, US and Asia. Roland Haas has a broad experience in Automotive R&D, Aerospace R&D, Engineering & IT services, Consulting and Strategy. He is the Co-founder & CEO of ARAI Solutions, a deep tech startup in AI, and an Adjunct Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B). His teaching and research spans a wide area of topics including Artificial IntelIigence, Data Science, Cyber-Physical Systems, Cyber Security, Automotive Software Technologies, and Information Management.
Roland Haas is an Alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes) and the Mercedes-Benz Scholarship Foundation. He studied Computer Science, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT) and the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany. In 1997, he received a doctorate degree from the Technical University of Clausthal.
