Short Bio

Prof. Ashima Goyal

Ashima Goyal edits a Routledge journal in macroeconomics and finance and contributes a monthly column to the Hindu Business Line. She was a visiting fellow at the Economic Growth Centre, Yale University, USA, and a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow at Claremont Graduate University, USA. Her research has received national and international awards. She won two best research awards at GDN meetings at Tokyo (2000) and Rio de Janeiro (2001), was selected as one of the four most powerful women in economics, a thought leader, by Business Today (2008); was the first Professor P.R. Brahmananda Memorial Research Grant Awardee for a study on History of Monetary Policy in India since Independence (2011), which was published by Springer in 2014; received the SKOCH Challenger Award for Economic Policy (2017); Hindu College OSA Distinguished Alumni Award and 20th FLO FICCI GR8 Beti Award for Excellence in Economics (2018).

Ashima Goyal is widely published in institutional and open economy macroeconomics, international finance and governance, with more than a hundred articles in national and international journals. She has also authored and edited a number of books including Macroeconomics and Markets in Developing and Emerging Economies (Routledge: UK. 2017) and A Concise Handbook of the Indian Economy in the 21st Century (OUP: India, 2019).

Prof. Thomas Drechsel

Thomas Drechsel is a macroeconomist and Assistant Professor at the Economics Department of the University of Maryland. His research focuses on credit frictions in business cycles, various aspects of monetary policy, the role of commodities for emerging market economies, as well as real-time monitoring of macroeconomic activity. His work has been published in the Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Finance, Journal of International Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics. Thomas is a German national and holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Prof. Abheek Barua

Abheek Barua is Visiting professor of Economics at Ashoka University. He is Chief Economist and Senior Executive Vice President of HDFC Bank, has been in the financial sector for 30 years now. He has been earlier been with CRISIL (Standard and Poor, India), Merrill Lynch and SSKI securities. His previous assignment was as Chief Economist, ABN-AMRO Bank. He has been on a number of consultative committees of the Planning Commission, NITI Ayog and the RBI. He is also member of a group consulted by the RBI governor on monetary policy, founding member of the RBI’s Industry Monitoring Group and member of the Working Group on funding strategies for the 11th Five-year plan. He is part of the HDFC bank’s apex Asset Liability Committee and was a member of the Indian Bank’s Association Advisory Group on Monetary Issues.

He has also been in number of key committees CII and Assocham. Abheek is a regular commentator on television writes a regular column for Economic Times (a major business daily) and is a regular speaker at finance and economics conferences both in India and abroad. He has been voted by Bloomberg, Reuters and Asset magazine as one of the top currency forecasters and bond analyst in the region. He was educated at the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Maryland, USA.
