About the Speaker

Virendra K. Malhotra

Professor V.K. Malhotra is, presently, Chairman, Food Commission of M.P. constituted under the National Food Security Act, 2013. Prior to his current position, he served as the Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) from 2016 to 2022. He is a Professor of Economics and has worked with the Department of Economics, C.C.S University, Meerut.

He has supervised theses/dissertations of eight Ph.D scholars and more than forty M.Phil scholars. His research interests include Governance and Economic Development, Corporate Governance and Performance of various industries, Intellectual Property Rights and India’s concerns, Foreign Trade and Investments etc. He has done UGC sponsored major research projects on ‘Governance and Development: A Study of Major States of India’ and his own Ph.D. work has been on ‘Economics of Fertiliser Subsidies’. He has a number of papers in reputed national/international journals in areas of his interest. He has to his credit a book entitled ‘Economics of Education’ which is prescribed by many universities. He is on the Board of Indian Council of World Affairs, and a Visitor’s nominee to the Court of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi. He is also a Member of the Board of many renowned Social Science Research Institutes of the country and is also part of the Executive of many International Research Bodies/Associations.

Lt Gen (Dr.) Rakesh Sharma

Lt Gen (Dr) Rakesh Sharma was commissioned in Gorkha Rifles in 1977, and had a career spanning forty years in the Army. He has had extensive operational experience in Jammu and Kashmir, North East and on the Western Borders. The officer had trained the Botswana Army for three years in Africa, and attended the National War College at Abuja, Nigeria. Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma attended the NDC at New Delhi. He was Research Fellow at Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses and has done PhD in Defence Studies. General Rakesh Sharma commanded the Fire and Fury Corps in Ladakh responsible for Kargil, Siachin Glacier and Eastern Ladakh – facing both Pakistan and China. The General was the Adjutant General of the Indian Army responsible for the Human Resource Management and superannuated in 2017. He has been awarded by the President of India. He is a regular participant in seminars, lectures in various institutions, and regularly writes for newspapers and military journals. He is currently DISTINGUISHED FELLOW with Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) and Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) and on the EXECUTIVE COUNCIL of Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and of Global Counter Terrorism Council (GCTC).

Dilip Chenoy

Mr Dilip Chenoy is Chairman, Bharat Web3 Association. Mr. Chenoy has had an illustrious career serving as the Secretary-General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Director-General of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Deputy Director-General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). With decades of experience in leading domestic industry bodies, Mr. Chenoy is a renowned figure in the policy domain and his expertise and contributions have been invaluable to the Indian business landscape.

Dharmakirti Joshi

Dharmakirti Joshi is currently the Chief Economist at CRISIL-An S&P Global Company. With over 34 years of experience in economic research and consultancy, his career began in NCAER where he spent 11 years. He then moved on to senior positions in Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, New Delhi and CRISIL- An S&P Global Company. He has extensive experience in macroeconomic analysis, medium term assessment of Indian economy and forecasting as well as in public finance issues at the central and state levels. He was member of the Working Group of Savings for the 12th Five Year Plan. He is currently member of Working Group on Revision of Wholesale Price Index set up Government of India.

He is Chairman of Economic Affairs Group of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and member of Economic Affairs council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and IMC’s Industry and Trade Committee. He often writes for leading newspapers and expresses his views on the economy in the electronic media.

S. Baljit Singh

S. Baljit Singh is the President of the Mohali Industries Association. He plays a significant role in the industrial community of Mohali, contributing to various business and civic initiatives. Under his leadership, Dynamic Super Plastic Industries has become a notable entity in the plastic manufacturing sector.

Ajit Pai

Ajit Pai is Strategy Lead Partner, Government and Public Sector, at EY’s Strategy and Transactions Group. Previously, he was Distinguished Expert, NITI Aayog, where he headed Economics & Finance and oversaw Public Disinvestment and performance of Central Public Sector Enterprises. He was also Consultant to the Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, the nodal officer for the Ministry of Finance, its subsidiary departments, and handled matters related to the World Bank, IFC, IMF, ADB, NDB, OECD, and the G20. Mr. Pai is also Chairman, Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC), a statutory body created by an Act of Parliament in 1973, to advise the Government of India in the matter of preserving, developing and maintaining the aesthetic quality of urban and environmental design. Prior to this, he had a career in the private sector including working internationally at firms like McKinsey, Lazard, Thomas Weisel Partners and Stifel Financial, the latter two as Managing Director. Mr. Pai holds a B.Arch. from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, a M.Arch. from the Yale School of Architecture and a MBA from the Yale School of Management. He attended Yale University as a Tata Scholar and also served as a John M Olin Fellow for research in markets and regulatory behavior.

Ajay K. Tomar

Dr. Ajay K. Tomar is a distinguished academician with numerous publications and books to his credit, primarily focusing on economic development, rural banking, and policy analysis. He was the former Principal of RMPS University. He has authored and co-authored several books that are widely used as reference materials in academic circles. His research papers, published in esteemed national and international journals, address critical issues such as financial inclusion, rural development, and the impact of government policies on economic growth, often providing actionable insights for policymakers. Additionally, he has contributed as an editor and peer reviewer for academic journals, further enriching the field of economics. His work reflects a commitment to advancing research and influencing evidence-based policy decisions, making a significant impact on both academia and governance.

Rajeshwari U.R.

Rajeshwari U.R. is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Christ University . She is a recipient of Nandan Nilekani Fellowship and RBI Scholarship.She is Member In Professional Bodies, Karnataka Economic Association and Board of Studies, BASE, Bangalore. Her research interest lies in the area of Public Finance, Development Economics and econometrics. Rajeshwari U.R contributes valuable insights to the industry. With a robust skill set that includes Report Writing, Excellent Analytical Skills, Policy Analysis, Academic Program Development, IPR and more.She is a Gold Medalist from Karnataka University.

Saakshi Jha

Saakshi Jha is Assistant Professor of Economics, IIM Ranchi. Her teaching interest lies in Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and Public Policy. Her research mainly focuses on Macroeconomics and Monetary policy. Saakshi Jha holds a doctoral degree in economics from the Department of Economic Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. She is the recipient of Lt. Prof. Mulk Raj Gold medal in her undergraduate and has been awarded for “Outstanding Ph.D. thesis” in Ph.D. She obtained her Master’s degree in Economics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and her undergraduate degree is from St. Aloysius College (Jabalpur).
