About the Speakers

Dr. Inder Jit Singh

Dr Inderjit Singh, an IAS officer of Kerala cadre 1985 batch has taken charge as the Secretary, Ministry of Coal. He is a Ph.D in Economics from Panjab University, M.Sc. (Public Economic Management), M.A. (Economics), L.L.B., CAIIB. In the past he has also held positions in Ministry of Commerce, MNRE at the Centre and other significant portfolios in the State cadre. Dr. Inder Jit Singh belonged to the 1985 batch of IAS, and have a rich and varied experience of over 36 years in the fields of Public Policy & Administration, having worked in various capacities with Government of India and the State Governments. In his last assignment as Secretary M/o DoNER, he co-ordinated the activities of almost all the central Ministries in connection with implementation of their plans, policies and schemes in the North East States, and monitored the utilization of their 10% GBS resources earmarked for NER. With his initiative and efforts, a milestone towards localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was achieved with the formulation and release of the first edition of the North Eastern Region (NER) District SDG Index Report and Dashboard 2021–22. He was awarded President of India's Census Medal for outstanding contribution in the conduct of Census of India 2001 operations in the state of Punjab. He has several publications in books and journal.

Madhurjya Prasad Bezbaruah

Madhurjya Prasad Bezbaruah is the Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Gauhati University. He has 5 books, 50 papers in journals, 28 articles in edited volumes. He has also held several positions till date viz Member of ICSSR from 2017-2020,Director in the board of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Member of the RBI Committee on Financial Sector Plan for NE Region chaired by Usha Thorat, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Director in the Board of Directors of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation from 2001 to 2005, Member of the Advisory Committee for Preparation of Human Development Report, Assam 2013. He is also an Expert, EGROW Foundation. He has completed his Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and Doctrate of Philosophy from Gauhati University.

Sumarbin Umdor

Sumarbin Umdor is Associate Professor, NEHU (2012-15) Professor (2015- till date). His areas of interest are Microfinance/Participatory Development/ Rural Credit in Northeast India/Decentralized Planning/ Local Self Governments in Northeast India/ Livelihood in Upland Area of Northeast India/Evaluation Studies. He has held several positions viz Chairman, NEHU Covid-19 Committee for Students (2020-21) Deans of Students’ Welfare, NEHU (2018-2021) Teacher-In-Charge of Sports Department, NEHU (2016-2021) Public Relations Officer, NEHU (2008-2010) NEHU Coordinator of UGC Coaching Programme for Entry in Service for Students Belonging to SC/ST/OBC and Minority Communities (2008-2012) Project Adviser, Social Economic Life Development Association-NGO (1999-2003) Member, Executive Committee of the Board of Management of the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society, North Eastern Council, GoI & International Fund of Agriculture Development (2000-2002). He has several publications in books and journal. He is M.A, Ph. D (NEHU).

Dr.Hanjabam Isworchandra Sharma

Dr.Hanjabam Isworchandra Sharma is Assistant Professor at Department of Economics, Manipur University. He is Served as Guest lecturer in Centre for Coaching UGC-CSIR NET/JRF for SC/ST/OBC Minorities Community, Manipur University, Canchipur teaching Economics and Served as Research Assistant for the project titled “Border trade in Manipur: Ground Level Survey and Status Report” 2011, (Principle Investigator: Dr. Ch. Priyoranjan,Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Manipur University-Research Guide). and He is member in The Indian Society of Labour Economics, International Red Cross Society and Manipur Economic Association. He is write a book is Quest for development in Manipur: Continuity, Constraints and Contradictions co-edited withDr Homen Thangjam, Concept Publishing Company (P) Ltd., New Delhi2013.
