Abstract

Brazil is the world's 10th largest economy and the largest in Latin America, boasting an estimated nominal GDP of $2.64 trillion. It features an upper-middle-income, diversified market highly reliant on agriculture, raw commodity exports (soybeans, iron ore, and crude oil), and a massive internal service sector.Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, plays a significant role in global trade, agriculture, industry, and services. This webinar explores the structure, strengths, and challenges of the Brazilian economy, highlighting key sectors such as agribusiness, manufacturing, mining, energy, and finance. It examines recent economic trends, government policies, trade relations, and the impact of global market dynamics on growth and development. The discussion also addresses issues including inflation, inequality, environmental sustainability, and investment opportunities. Brazil’s economic landscape and its evolving position in the regional and global economy.

Short Bio

Prof. N. Vinod Chandra Menon

Prof. N. Vinod Chandra Menon has a working experience of 37 years. He has specialised in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Public Policy Analysis. He has worked as Prof. Disaster Management at YASHADA, Pune the apex training institute for senior administrators in Maharashtra and has worked in UNICEF in charge of emergency preparedness and response. He was nominated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India as one of the Founder Members of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Government of India with the status of a Union Minister of State in the Government of India. He has actively participated in the G20 Engagement Groups during the G20 Presidency of Indonesia, India, Brazil and South Africa. He is the Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Africa International Policy Research Center AIPRC Nairobi and chairs the Boards of several policy think tanks and NGOs.

Andre de Mello e Souza

Andre de Mello e Souza is a Planning and Research Specialist at the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), where he serves as the Head of the International Center for Inclusive Development Policies (CIPDI).

Previously, he worked as a Professor of International Relations at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and at the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets (IBMEC). He was also a Visiting Researcher at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

He is one of the founding members of the global, Brazilian, and Latin American chapters of the Network of Southern Think Tanks (NeST). His main research areas include global health governance, intellectual property rights, and international development cooperation, as well as international private aid and South-South development cooperation, with a particular focus on the BRICS countries.

He is one of the authors of The Politics of Private Aid, published in International Organization, as well as The Palgrave Handbook of Development Cooperation for Achieving the 2030 Agenda. He has also authored numerous articles, book chapters, and books on these subjects.He holds both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford University, United States.
