Abstract

The imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian exports by the United States transcends the boundaries of a mere trade dispute—it symbolizes the complex intersection of economic policy and geopolitical strategy in today’s multipolar world. As an emerging economy, India stands at a pivotal juncture where it must protect its developmental aspirations while asserting its strategic autonomy amid intensifying great-power rivalries.

The present scenario reflects the broader transformation of international trade into a tool of geopolitical influence, where economic leverage increasingly serves strategic ends. For India, the challenge lies in navigating this evolving global landscape without compromising its core economic priorities, including the protection of farmers, MSMEs, and indigenous industries, while also maintaining an open channel of dialogue with the United States.

The resolution of such disputes will depend on both nations’ ability to align economic pragmatism with strategic vision.

This webinar brings together a distinguished panel to examine how emerging economies like India can pursue balanced trade agreements, diversify markets, and build domestic economic resilience. It also explores how India can contribute to shaping a more equitable global trade architecture, one that respects national interests while fostering cooperation.
