Is Nepal speaking from dragon's dragnet?
Peaceful ties between India and Nepal were rocked with sudden undulations last month when Nepal Government objected to newly-constructed 80 km road from Uttarakhand to LAC(Line of Actual Control) at Lipulekh, which is a border outpost with China. This road which is built by the BRO (Border Roads Organisation) was constructed well within the Indian territory with the purpose of reducing the traveling time to Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage by more than 50% and to augment border trade with China at Lipulekh post where trade is taking place since 1991. The road was inaugurated on 8 May by Defense minister Mr. Rajnath Singh, who termed it to be "important for Strategic, religious and trade reasons". Nepal Government's objection seems to have stemmed from reason more political than historical. The Indian Foreign Ministry immediately expressed its unhappiness on Nepal's statement.
